Director of Planned Giving

Position: Director of Planned Giving, Young America’s Foundation

Location: Young America’s Foundation’s National Headquarters | Reston, Virginia

Reports To: Director of Development

Job Summary: The director of planned giving will lead the Foundation’s efforts to acquire planned gifts. In addition, the director of planned giving will help identify, cultivate, and solicit annual, major, and ultimate gifts—ensuring Young America’s Foundation reaches its full development potential.

The director will work in close collaboration with development team members at Young America’s Foundation’s national headquarters in Reston, Virginia, as well as with those at the Foundation’s Reagan Ranch Center (Santa Barbara, California) and the Reagan Boyhood Home in Dixon, Illinois. The director will work directly with YAF’s Vice President & General Counsel and Legacy Society & Development Relations Director on the stewardship and receipt of planned gifts.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of primary prospects of planned gifts
  • Initiate contact with current and potential major gift donors for planned and ultimate gifts
  • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies (home visits, Ranch visits, correspondence, event participation, etc.) for these supporters
  • Move donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation or completion of planned and ultimate gifts
  • Grow the membership of the Ranch in the Sky Legacy Society
  • Make solicitations when appropriate
  • Provide a high level of quality stewardship for gifts you are involved in acquiring
  • Report the status and progress of an assigned list of supporters at Foundation development team meetings and when requested by Foundation leadership
  • Ensure that timely and comprehensive visit reports are filed for donor contacts
  • Prioritize and visit supporters in their homes and/or offices to follow-up post Reagan Ranch visits
  • Maximize the Foundation’s current and future support
  • Work with the overall development team to ensure all supporter events reach the maximum financial potential
  • Provide other members of the Foundation’s Development Team with support
  • Share visits and seek to familiarize other Foundation colleagues in your knowledge and experience in planned giving
  • Maintain regular business hours at the Foundation’s headquarters whenever not on the road or operating out of other Foundation facilities
  • Periodically report on all prospective planned gifts to the Foundation’s president
  • Coordinate with the general counsel’s office as required to legally obtain all planned gifts
  • Write, edit, and review Foundation materials related to planned giving
  • Undertake other duties assigned by the President or Board of Directors

Knowledge/Skills/Characteristics:

  • Three+ years’ experience planned giving (preferred)
  • Proven success in planned giving
  • Committed to and enthusiastic about Young America’s Foundation’s mission and programs
  • General knowledge of and interest in the Conservative Movement
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and flexible
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of donors in order to develop donor-centered relationships between the donor and the Foundation
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Ability to work as a collaborative, constructive team member
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking
