Steve Mairella joined the YAF team in October, serving as deputy general counsel at the Foundation’s national headquarters. Mairella is proud to be helping YAF fight for the First Amendment across the country. As deputy general counsel, Steve assists the general counsel and advises YAF in all legal matters pertaining to the Foundation, including free speech litigation, Freedom of Information Act requests, tax-exempt organization compliance, labor and employment law, intellectual property, contracts, and estate planning.
Prior to arriving at YAF, Steve served as senior counsel at Stand Together Chamber of Commerce and spent eight years working as counsel to Americans for Prosperity and Americans for Prosperity Foundation, working heavily in campaign finance, lobbying and ethics, non-profit tax, litigation strategy, and various other matters.
Steve grew up in Nutley, New Jersey. He is a member of the Virginia Bar and is a graduate of American University (BA, 2007) and the Catholic University Columbus School of Law (JD, 2011). In his spare time, Steve enjoys Crossfit, golf, travel, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. Steve currently resides in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Rachel.
