Why Are Abortion Clinics Considered “Essential” During the COVID-19 Crisis?

As states nationwide continue shuttering businesses deemed “non-essential,” businesses like emergency veterinarians, banks, grocery stores, and hospitals remain open–offering essential services to the American people. One questionable business that seems to stand out among those deemed essential? Abortion clinics. Judges in Texas and Ohio have recently struck down bans on abortions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally, the Attorney General of Texas and Ohio Department of Health asserted that abortion was not considered essential healthcare, unless the mother’s life was in danger. Leftist groups like Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union quickly jumped on the ban, filing emergency lawsuits claiming the orders were unconstitutional. An appeals court in Texas has temporarily reinstated the ban. However, states like New York, Washington, and New Jersey have all deemed abortion clinics essential, allowing them to stay open and continue the murder of thousands of innocent children, who were created by no fault of their own. The New York Times’ Editorial Board went so far as to write a piece titled “Make Abortion More Available During the Pandemic–Not Less.” A MotherJones article even advocated for “abortion via telemedicine.” Healthcare providers and governments nationwide have urged Americans to put off elective procedures–which is exactly why abortion clinics should be closed. The current handling of businesses by state officials is a leftist dystopia–shuttering churches indefinitely, closing down gun stores, yet allowing abortionists to continue their war on women and their babies. The government should not be allowed to pick and choose what is essential based on their ideological leanings. In the current climate where every American is intent on saving lives, many should consider just how easily some turn a blind eye to the violent deaths of the most vulnerable.
