Stetson University YAF’s 9/11 Memorial Chalked With Anti-American Rhetoric

By: Breana Marsh Last night, the Young Americans for Freedom chapter at Stetson University (SU YAF) constructed a memorial of 2,977 flags to honor the innocent lives taken on September 11, 2001. This morning, on the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, SU YAF found that under the cover of darkness someone felt the memorial was the best place to show their hatred for America. Instead of focusing on the innocent lives taken on 9/11, someone chalked the surrounding sidewalks with statements trying to make America seem worse than murdering almost 3,000 innocent people. The chalk suggested that the American flag memorial actually represented “debt,” “fascism,” “drones,” and “terrorist”. It also stated the number of casualties from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and claimed the wars are “unholy,” and that these casualties the true meaning of “America” and “Never Forget”. The anonymous protester was unsuccessful in their attempt to take away from the somber meaning of the memorial, and distract from the true effects of radical Islamic terrorism. These pitiful comments echo those recently given by the Young Turks’ Hasan Piker when he declared last month that “America deserved 9/11.” The Left’s message is clear on this: those Americans deserved to die. The husbands, mothers, children, and first responders are worth less than words and ideas the Left finds offensive. Safe places are more important than the men and women who were murdered for simply being American. This is the Left’s idea of tolerance. SU YAF responded to this defacement with a statement: “Even with our wholehearted commitment to free speech on this campus and around this country, we must condemn this chalking display and the gross misinterpretation of the memorial that it perpetuates.” Young America’s Foundation’s 9/11: Never Forget Project was created to honor the victims of 9/11 and since its start, more than 10 million American flags have been placed to do just that. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s comments that 9/11 was an event where “some people did something” is the exact reason the 9/11: Never Forget Project was created. These pathetic remarks on the anniversary of the attacks on America show just how delusional the Left’s idea of history is. The Left wants America to forget the day that changed the skyline and world, but as students from more than 200 schools across the nation are displaying their 9/11 memorials it is clear – we will Never Forget.
