MSU ‘Women*s’ Center Pushes for On-Campus Abortion

Michigan State University hosted a Planned Parenthood executive last month to speak on abortion. The event was marketed to help students “advocate for your reproductive health.” In reality, students were directed to the nearest abortion clinics and university staff attempted to normalize the atrocity, even suggesting abortion be made available directly on campus.

The event was hosted by the university-run Women*s Student Services (WSS), the same center responsible for hosting the “Sex-Positive Bingo” event exposed earlier this year. The asterisk in the department’s name, MSU’s website explains, is used to indicate the university’s nonsensical belief that “there is more to gender than the binary.”

Throughout the seminar, the speaker and event hosts used dodgy terms such as “the right to have or not to have a child” and “remove the pregnancy from the uterus” in an attempt to make abortion sound less extreme.

The seminar began with a presentation given by WSS staff. Students were asked about their knowledge of current state laws on abortion and were enthusiastically told that not only is abortion legal in most cases, but that even minors can obtain the procedure without parental consent. Soon after, students were given the places nearest to campus to receive an abortion and were even told to avoid crisis pregnancy centers.

“Crisis pregnancy centers actually disguise themselves as abortion information centers but they are biased and often inaccurate,” the host said, claiming that the centers use “fear-mongering” and visual aids such as ultrasounds to encourage women not to kill their unborn children.

She also mentioned that she felt it was unfair that crisis pregnancy centers were in closer proximity to campus than the nearest Planned Parenthood, worrying that students might be less likely to get an abortion.

Shortly after, the host condemned the university for not providing abortion on campus.

“Unfortunately, MSU does not provide women the opportunity to seek an abortion on-campus” the presentation read. Students were then asked how this made them feel and whether they wanted abortion to be more accessible. The host suggested medical abortion pills be made available in the campus clinic and that MSU provide a list of abortion resources.

The host then went on to declare the harmlessness of abortion. “Yes, abortions are safe” the presentation read. “…it’s safer than getting your wisdom teeth out.”

When a pro-life member of MSU Young Americans for Freedom pushed back against that claim, stating the procedure was not safe for the one being aborted, WSS staff fell silent, refusing to engage in the opposition. Guest Speaker Dr. Sarah Wallett, the Chief Medical Officer for Planned Parenthood Michigan, jumped in, saying “There’s definitely a time and a place to talk about the ethics of abortion.” She further avoided the pro-lifer’s point, stating only that it should be “reassuring” that the child is usually aborted young enough not to feel pain. The evidence of this is unproven.

Later on, Wallett further emphasized the harmlessness of abortion and discouraged students from choosing to keep their child:

“Abortions are very safe. Having an abortion when you are pregnant and don’t want to be is safer for you than continuing a pregnancy and going through childbirth.”

The event ended with students being encouraged to join pro-abortion clubs on campus and to advocate for abortion to be included in student healthcare.

When asked for a copy of the slideshow, the WSS director informed Young America’s Foundation’s on-site reporter that she would have to “look it over” first.

It is unfortunate to see the pro-abortion Left targeting impressionable young adults and actively encouraging them to seek abortions with little regard for human life or the wellbeing of the students.
