Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t let the point go uncontended, but instead of making an argument, Cortez accused Crenshaw of having friends who “have likely abused their spouse or have a violent criminal record.” What?!Situations like this story are why we protect the 2nd Amendment.

Side note: With universal background checks, I wouldn’t be able to let my friends borrow my handgun when they travel alone like this. We would make felons out of people just for defending themselves. https://t.co/x60mdd1WW1
Crenshaw and other conservatives on twitter were shocked by the insinuation. “You think my friends are domestic abusers/criminals? Seriously that’s your argument?”You are a member of Congress. Why are you “lending” guns to people unsupervised who can’t pass a basic background check?
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) September 4, 2019
The people you’re giving a gun to have likely abused their spouse or have a violent criminal record, & you may not know it.
Why on earth would you do that? https://t.co/TQFjcLQebO
Liberals can be so out of touch with the everyday American that they can’t imagine another perspective or experience other than their own, and AOC’s latest tirade here perfectly highlights the bubble that she lives in.Just so I’m clear: you think my friends are domestic abusers/criminals? Seriously that’s your argument? That they can’t pass a background check?
— Dan Crenshaw (@DanCrenshawTX) September 4, 2019
Wrong. People lend guns to friends, esp if they don’t own a gun, for self-defense and hunting purposes.
This is America outside NYC. https://t.co/wkWPhfi0JB
AOC wasn’t finished with Crenshaw, but Stephen Gutowski of The Washington Free Beacon had something to say, affirming the legitimacy of Crenshaw’s position. You said w/ universal background checks, you wouldn’t be able to “lend” guns to friends.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) September 4, 2019
If a background check would be a problem, then you shouldn’t “lend” a gun.
And btw, NY is one of the safest states in the country when it comes to guns, incl rural areas.
Try to keep up. https://t.co/4RV4DNg7FM
This exchange exposes the Left’s obsession with controlling law-abiding gun owners. Law abiding gun owners can’t just be just that anymore. The Left insists that you go to your government approved babysitter, pay them a fee, and get their cushy seal of approval before lending a firearm to a friend (who we assume is NOT a domestic abuser/felon because normal people don’t do that). It is already illegal to knowingly transfer a gun to somebody prohibited from owning them.

HR8, passed by the house, would ban transfers of guns between friends without a background check. There are a few exceptions to that rule but @DanCrenshawTX's example is accurate. https://t.co/IXakit3Svt
Let fully grown adults be fully grown adults, and leave them alone. This idea of “I don’t know the guy, he probably beats his wife” as the way we keep guns out of the hands of innocents is ridiculous. https://t.co/pZTWOvqFCB
