Crenshaw is Right and AOC is Wrong on Universal Background Checks

By: Kevin McMahon At around 2:30a.m. on Tuesday, a Houston woman stopped two men who were attempting to rob her as she pulled her firearm on the two assailants, firing at least two shots. The woman, Lachelle Hudgins, said: “I saved my life.” Congressman Dan Crenshaw took to Twitter and picked up the story, highlighting the essential nature of the Second Amendment and the right to self-defense. Crenshaw noted that gun control and policies like universal background checks would criminalize law abiding gun owners.

Situations like this story are why we protect the 2nd Amendment.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t let the point go uncontended, but instead of making an argument, Cortez accused Crenshaw of having friends who “have likely abused their spouse or have a violent criminal record.” What?!

You are a member of Congress. Why are you “lending” guns to people unsupervised who can’t pass a basic background check?

The people you’re giving a gun to have likely abused their spouse or have a violent criminal record, & you may not know it.

Crenshaw and other conservatives on twitter were shocked by the insinuation. “You think my friends are domestic abusers/criminals? Seriously that’s your argument?”

Just so I’m clear: you think my friends are domestic abusers/criminals? Seriously that’s your argument? That they can’t pass a background check?

Wrong. People lend guns to friends, esp if they don’t own a gun, for self-defense and hunting purposes.

Liberals can be so out of touch with the everyday American that they can’t imagine another perspective or experience other than their own, and AOC’s latest tirade here perfectly highlights the bubble that she lives in.

You said w/ universal background checks, you wouldn’t be able to “lend” guns to friends.

If a background check would be a problem, then you shouldn’t “lend” a gun.

And btw, NY is one of the safest states in the country when it comes to guns, incl rural areas.

AOC wasn’t finished with Crenshaw, but Stephen Gutowski of The Washington Free Beacon had something to say, affirming the legitimacy of Crenshaw’s position.

It is already illegal to knowingly transfer a gun to somebody prohibited from owning them.

This exchange exposes the Left’s obsession with controlling law-abiding gun owners. Law abiding gun owners can’t just be just that anymore. The Left insists that you go to your government approved babysitter, pay them a fee, and get their cushy seal of approval before lending a firearm to a friend (who we assume is NOT a domestic abuser/felon because normal people don’t do that).
