1996 National Journalism Center alumnus Mike Catanzaro has been named a top White House energy aide. Before beginning his political career, he was an assistant editor with Human Events. Having always had an interest in public policy, Catanzaro then became a staffer for the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and Deputy Policy Director for the 2004 Bush-Cheney presidential campaign. Before becoming a lobbyist for the electric utilities company Pennsylvania Power and Light, he was Associate Director for Policy for the Council on Environmental Quality and then Associate Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency during the George W. Bush administration. After serving for two and a half years as Deputy Minority Staff Director of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Catanzaro became top policy aide for then Speaker of the House, Rep. John Boehner. Catanzaro continued his career as a top energy industry lobbyist before being hand-picked as one of President Trump’s top energy policy aides.
