Event Overview

"Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.” - Ronald Reagan

August 11 - 13, 2022
The Reagan Ranch and Reagan Ranch Center
Santa Barbara, California

Interested state legislators are invited to attend the Economics Leadership Seminar, hosted at the Reagan Ranch and Reagan Ranch Center by Young America's Foundation, Hillsdale College, and the Laffer Center. Taking place from Thursday, August 11ᵗʰ, to Saturday, August 13ᵗʰ, this unique program is designed to educate promising lawmakers on free market economics and economic policymaking.

Seminar faculty will include renowned economist and Presidential Medal of Freedom-recipient Dr. Arthur Laffer, Young America's Foundation President and 45ᵗʰ Governor of Wisconsin Scott Walker, and distinguished economic historian Dr. Brian Domitrovic, among others. Topics addressed will include the economics of states, how to implement pro-growth policies in your state, the tax history of the United States, and trade policy, among others.

During this exclusive program, participants will have the opportunity to tour President Ronald Reagan’s beloved ranch, which served as his home for 25 years and as the “Western White House” for eight years. This is the venue where America's 40ᵗʰ President signed into law the Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981, which ushered in the largest tax cuts in the nation's history. The very essence of President Reagan’s character is found at the Ranch—his humility, frugality, love for freedom, and belief in personal responsibility and the American Dream. The Ranch embodies his vision of what America was, is, and can be—a “Shining City on a Hill.”
