YAF's Spring Conference: A Time for Choosing for the Next Generation Details

1. When should I arrive?

You should arrive on Friday afternoon, March 28, for check-in between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The student reception starts at 6:00 p.m.

2. What time does the conference end?

The conference ends at 5:00 pm on Saturday, March 29. You will check out of your room on Saturday morning and place your luggage in a secure luggage storage room for retrieval at the conclusion of the conference.

3. What does the conference fee include?

The $20 conference fee includes Friday night lodging at the Amway Grand Plaza hotel, conference tuition, conference materials, dinner on Friday and breakfast and lunch on Saturday.

4. What are the activities during the conference?

The event opens with a reception on Friday night, followed by a dinner banquet.   Saturday morning features breakfast and speaker sessions and Saturday afternoon features speaker sessions following lunch.

5. Will I have free time during the conference?

No, because the event is only a day long. If you wish to tour the area, make your own plans to arrive on Thursday night or stay through Saturday night and Sunday.   Young America’s Foundation only covers your hotel room on Friday night.  A limited number of hotel rooms may be available for Saturday stay-overs (for those traveling great distances).  Please email Katie at ktaran@yaf.org for more information.

6. What are the hotel arrangements on Friday night?

You will be rooming with one person of the same sex.   Please request your roommate on your application, but realize that we cannot guarantee your requested roommates.   We will do our best to accommodate your preferences.   If you want to make your own arrangements for your own room, you need to notify Young America’s Foundation by 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, February 28 or you will be liable for any costs associated with the room you do not use.

7. Can I get my own room at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel?

Yes, you may pay for your own room and make a reservation directly by calling 1-800-253-3590. You MUST notify Katie Taran at ktaran@yaf.org that you are making your own arrangements/wish not to be on the group rooming list or you will be charged for the unused room.

8. How many students are expected at this conference?

More than 200 students are expected to attend the conference from around the state and across the country.  Young America’s Foundation supporters will be invited to participate in some of the sessions along with students.

9. Are high school students allowed to attend?

Yes, a limited number of outstanding high school students will be admitted to attend the conference, but you must have your parents’ consent and they must sign a liability waiver.  Parents are warned that there will likely be a college-like atmosphere at the event.

10. What is the atmosphere like at the conference?

The atmosphere of this conference is similar to a normal college or university.   As such, there may be drinking or smoking by those obeying all applicable local and hotel regulations.   Anyone not obeying the law will be prosecuted by local police and subject to removal from the conference at his own expense.

11. If traveling via airplane, to which airport do I fly?

You should fly to Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

12. How will I get to and from the airport and the conference?

Gerald Ford International Airport is located about 13 miles from the conference hotel.  Due to the amount of people attending the conference, Young America’s Foundation is unable to provide a shuttling service at this time.  We suggest groups of students hail cabs to the hotel together to reduce costs.

13. What is the dress code for this conference?

You need to wear business professional dress to the dinner banquet on Friday night and business casual clothing during the Saturday sessions.

14. What are the terms and conditions of this conference?

1)      I understand that I must attend all sessions of the Freedom Conference to be held March 28 and 29.  If I do not attend, I will be charged the full cost of the conference and events, including the hotel, food, and associated charges, which is $500.00 per attendee, except in the case of an emergency.  I must notify Young America's Foundation of my inability to attend before February 28, 2014 at 5:00 PM EST to avoid these charges.

2)      I understand that the conference fee indicated above is non-refundable, unless I notify Young America’s Foundation by 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, February 28, 2014.

3)      I understand I will be assigned a roommate for the conference, unless I indicate on the   application form that I am making my own hotel arrangements.  I may request preferred roommates of the same sex, but there is a chance I may not be able to room with them. If I want to guarantee a room to myself or ensure specific roommates, I will be completely responsible for my own hotel accommodations and must contact the Amway Grand Plaza  Hotel at 1-800-253-3590 AND notify Young America's Foundation of my plan immediately to avoid the charges listed in item 1.

4)      I agree to all rules listed here and promise to abide by all rules and instructions of Young America's Foundation and the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel during the conference.  If I am signing others up on their behalf, I understand I am responsible for making sure they understand and abide by these rules, including any costs associated with failure to attend, as listed in item 1.

5)      Young America's Foundation uses real photos, videos, and quotes from our students for promotional purposes and to advance our mission. By attending this program, I consent to the use of my photo, written evaluation statements, and video in any Young America's Foundation materials.
