Kristan was hired in 2006 to lead Students for Life of America (SFLA). Since launching SFLA’s full-time operation, Kristan has helped to grow number of campus pro-life groups in the United States, from 181 to over 1,150 in all 50 states, and grow the SFLA National Conference from 450 in 2007 to 2,000 in 2015, making the event the largest annual pro-life conference in the nation. She is also the author of SFLA’s first book Courageous: Students Abolishing Abortion in this Lifetime.
As President, Kristan directs the mission and strategy of Students for Life of America. In addition, Kristan serves as the organization’s official spokeswoman and has appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, EWTN, and the Christian Broadcasting Network. She is a columnist for the Washington Examiner and frequent contributor to the TheBlaze, Townhall, and LifeNews and has also been quoted in numerous national and regional newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Times, Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal and FoxNews.com. A dynamic speaker, Kristan travels the nation talking to pro-lifers of all ages on a wide range of topics including Planned Parenthood, Feminism, True Social Justice, and Leadership.
Kristan is known for her work leading the successful 2009 Stop the Abortion Mandate Coalition which brought together over 70 pro-life and pro-family leaders in a national coalition dedicated to stopping government funding of abortion in healthcare reform. In addition, she launched HealthcareforGunner.com in 2009, a website and coalition dedicated to her son Gunner who suffers from cystic fibrosis, to raise the issue of healthcare rationing in government healthcare systems. Kristan and the SFLA Team have launched several successful investigations into Planned Parenthood with Kristan, herself, going undercover on several occasions, and have even released startling information proving the abortion Goliath targets college-aged youth.
In addition to launching SFLA’s unique, nationwide Field Program that serves students from middle through graduate school, Kristan and her team have launched Pregnant on Campus, a transformative initiative which strives to connect young women in need on campus to those in the community.
Since high school, Kristan has been an advocate for the preborn and a pro-life speaker. Her mission began when she was asked to volunteer at a Pregnancy Resource Center during her sophomore year of high school. After spending 3 months counseling women not to abort their children, Kristan started the first pro-life group in her high school and served as the West Virginia Teens for Life President. It was during high school, where Kristan organized her first political protest and community events to protest the injustice of abortion.
After graduating high school as Valedictorian, Kristan went on to college and started the first pro-life group on her college campus. In 2005, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bethany College in West Virginia.
Before coming to SFLA, Kristan worked for the 2004 Bush/Cheney re-election campaign, the Republican National Committee, and served as a political appointee in the George W. Bush administration at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.
Kristan resides in the St. Paul, MN area with her husband, Jonathan, and three sons, Gunner, Bear, and Maverick and daughter, Gracie.
