• Is encouraging fellow students to "Respect Women" "vitriolic"? That's how Grosse Pointe North High School's administration described student Grant Strobl's posters (found below) which highlight how conservative women have been demagogued mainly in the media.

Grant Strobl, the chair of the YAF chapter at Grosse Point North, has also pointed out that the school has allowed a display titled "Black Power" and has allowed a teacher to post a sticker promoting gay marriage (from the so-called Human Rights Campaign). Seems hypocritical to say the least.

Here's Strobl's detailed account of what happened:

March, as many of us know, is Women’s History month, and my school, Grosse Pointe North High School, has not done anything to honor the month. So, I decided to create a series of posters with a message of respecting all women regardless of their beliefs particularly highlighting conservative women. I showcased Vinciane Ngomsi who was spat on by the husband of one of her professors for her conservative activism, Sarah Palin who was challenged by the media as to whether her special needs child was hers, Laura Ingraham who was called a “Sl**”, among others. I pointed out the obvious injustices done against women by the media.Like my many other projects, this one was challenged by the administration at my school.

My posters were not allowed to be hung on the walls yet the words,“Black Power ”next to Martin Luther King’s image did end up on the walls and wasn’t challenged. This is not only an injustice to women but to MLK as well.

Here are the posters. You can get copies by emailing

    • Wow, great posters! Keep up the fight for free speech and respect, Grant!

    • Except for the poster dealing with "honour killings", everyone of these posters might as well have been written by the far-right. Oh, wait, they were! They seem to have more in mind than just respecting women. Why aren't reproductive rights of women mentioned? How about condemning the Catholic church and its position on birth control? Or Virginia Governor McDonnell (aka Gov. Vaginal Probe) for the outrageous legislation he signed? These posters are so politically skewed (unfair & unbalanced?) they should have been rejected.

    • The young man in question and YAF, need to contact The Fire, an organization that defends the right of free speech on campus, and that includes high school. Here's their link

    • This article is ridiculous. The utter disregard for facts disgusts me. First of all, the school did not "allow" the "Black Power display". The photo showing it was taken the morning that the display was first arranged. The word "Power" was changed to "History" only a couple hours after the board was first seen. The student who put up the display was not aware that there were connotations to the phrase "black power" which were inappropriate for a display featuring Martin Luther King, Jr. The title on the board was "Black History" for all but a couple hours of Black History Month. Also, many teachers have stickers promoting the (not "so-called") Human Rights Campaign, because the school hosted an HRC workshop for teachers many years ago. The point of the stickers is to let students know that they can be comfortable in that teacher's classroom regardless of their sexual orientation, which should not be the source of in-school bullying that it is. The stickers have a clear, friendly purpose. These posters, however do not. Aside from many other problems I see in the posters (I could critique each one), they are obviously highly politically-motivated. Instead of focusing on promoting respect for women, they seem more focused on shaming liberals, while hypocritically ignoring the sexist and disrespectful comments that have proliferated from the conservative platform. As Douglas mentioned in an earlier comment: where are the posters condemning the Republican politicians who have promoted policies limiting access to contraceptives and abortions? If that isn't disrespecting women, then I don't know what is. More women are Democrats than Republicans for a reason, you know. Political views aside, I must conclude by simply stating that these posters have no place at Grosse Pointe North, which has already been the victim of other offensive efforts enacted by its YAF division. Many students, teachers, and administrators alike have been upset by the actions of the YAF club run by Grant Strobl (especially considering the fact that the club was, for a long time, not following the district-wide rules regarding having a teacher sponsor present at club meetings). As a student at that school, I am outraged that a deceitful story like this is circulating. YAF should not be acknowledging these lies as some sort of championing of fighting for free speech rights.

    • Mei, I would like to inform you on district policy. According to the attorneys who I talked with in regards to the Club at south. Political clubs can NOT have any teacher sponsor attend any meetings at all, otherwise they are breaking the law. Grant followed district policy by not finding an adviser. Nonpolitical clubs need an adviser but political clubs are excused from that rule. I have seen all the posters and they are not offensive. Infact you school has constantly been contradicting itself. I know of you Mei, at a poetry slam you made a very big effort to completely bash and attack YAF and that was over 2 months ago way before this issue. You clearly have a biased against YAF and the conservative movement, therefor you opinion on this topic is null and void. You are a troll, you are wasting your time, please do something more productive.

    • I actually attend the school that they are talking about, and all month the Black History month the poster said " Black History" and "Black Power" was taken down shortly after it was put up. The only reason I can see why the Women History poster wouldn't be allowed would be because of the words that are used.

    • I acquired more new thgins on this fat loss issue. One issue is a good nutrition is especially vital while dieting. A massive reduction in junk food, sugary food, fried foods, sweet foods, beef, and white-colored flour products could possibly be necessary. Holding wastes parasitic organisms, and wastes may prevent targets for losing fat. While specific drugs quickly solve the issue, the horrible side effects are usually not worth it, and so they never offer more than a short-term solution. This is a known fact that 95% of celebrity diets fail. Thanks for sharing your ideas on this web site. ovkgdsmvczq [link=]baqujhiqx[/link]

    • I must say, as a whole lot as I enjoyed rediang what you had to say, I couldnt assist but shed interest soon after a although. Its as should you had a wonderful grasp on the subject matter, but you forgot to incorporate your readers. Maybe you must think about this from far a lot more than 1 angle. Or perhaps you shouldnt generalise so considerably. Its greater in case you think about what other people might need to say rather of just going for a gut reaction towards the topic. Think about adjusting your own believed procedure and giving other people who may possibly read this the benefit of the doubt.

    • Thanks for your beneficial post. As time peasss, I have been able to understand that the actual symptoms of mesothelioma are caused by this build up connected fluid between lining in the lung and the chest cavity. The illness may start inside chest vicinity and pass on to other limbs. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include fat loss, severe breathing in trouble, nausea, difficulty taking in food, and irritation of the face and neck areas. It needs to be noted that some people having the disease usually do not experience any kind of serious indications at all.

    • Thanks for your post. I would like to say a health inrnsauce dealer also works best for the benefit of the coordinators of any group inrnsauce policy. The health inrnsauce broker is given a list of benefits needed by someone or a group coordinator. Such a broker really does is seek out individuals or perhaps coordinators which usually best complement those requirements. Then he reveals his recommendations and if all parties agree, the particular broker formulates legal contract between the two parties. tezpntgb [link=]pvnpirm[/link]
