Our paid internship program provides useful and effective training for student leaders preparing for a career in the Conservative Movement. Students selected to participate in the highly-competitive program receive unparalleled educational opportunities and benefits.

Headquarters, Reston, VA

POSITION: Program Officer, Public Relations

The ideal program officer will help develop effective marketing strategies and promote Foundation programs including our traditional conferences and campus events, those at the Reagan Ranch, and the National Journalism Center under the direction of Young America’s Foundation’s leadership. 

The program officer will work daily with the president and vice president to prioritize various media opportunities. The candidate will also review and proactively respond to campus controversies involving Foundation students, activities, and events. The program officer will also highlight the Foundation’s involvement in promoting conservative ideas to young people and showcase our leadership in this field. These stories should be used to enhance the Foundation’s brand and to increase student and supporter involvement.

The ideal team member will also maintain and develop key relationships with local and national media outlets to maximize news coverage for Young America’s Foundation.

Recent college graduates and alumni of our programs are encouraged to apply for this position. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Implementing Foundation-wide press strategy to ensure maximum positive Foundation exposure.
  • Writing news releases, talking points, and executing the Foundation’s news related efforts. 
  • Growing and maintaining the Foundation’s press list by building relationships with media contacts in television, new media, print, and radio. 
  • Managing media inquiries by responding or recommending the appropriate team member for the interview. 
  • Researching and preparing surveys and reports for release to the media, writing media messages and op-eds, and coordinating media events.
  • Utilize stories to drive traffic to yaf.org and our blog, The New Guard in addition to building the Foundation’s presence on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Training and advising students on how to promote their Foundation-related events on their campuses and generate media interest in their club’s activities. 
  • Accurately documenting bias against conservative students and informing the media when appropriate, especially when related to Foundation sponsored events. 
  • Staying informed of current PR trends in the Conservative Movement and the greater business community. 
  • Working at/on and helping organize Foundation programs, ensuring visual representation of events is high quality for television, and photography. Ensuring press is present and handled appropriately.
  • Interacting with students, friends, and supporters of the Foundation at all Foundation-related programs and events 

The candidate will have a strong interest in promoting conservative ideas to young people. The ideal person will have had previous involvement in Young America’s Foundation programs and/or marketing experience with promoting an organization and events to the media. Other qualifications: team-player, ability to manage multiple projects, able to take direction but also work independently. Applicant must have excellent oral, written, and organizational skills. Outstanding copyediting skills are a plus. A car is strongly recommended.  POSITION: Program Officer-Graphic Design

 Young America’s Foundation has an immediate opening for a program officer with an emphasis in graphic design. We’re seeking a versatile team member who understands both creative visual design and marketing strategy.

The ideal program officer will help design effective materials including, but not limited to, magazines, brochures, posters, reports, online and print ads and more to promote Foundation programs, including programs at the Reagan Ranch and the National Journalism Center.

Young America’s Foundation is the principal outreach organization of the Conservative Movement, introducing thousands of young people to conservative ideas through national conferences, campus lectures, YAF chapters, and activism programs, internships, and seminars at the Reagan Ranch and Reagan Ranch Center. Recent college graduates and alumni of our programs are encouraged to apply for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing, creating, and refining design and concepts of promotional material 
  • Ensuring the visual appearance of the organization in print and online is of the highest quality 
  • Developing marketing strategies under the guidance of the Foundation’s leadership

  • Assist in building the Foundation’s presence in new media including on Twitter, Facebook and our blog, The New Guard, at yaf.org, by designing compelling graphics.

  • Grasp of promotional and marketing strategies and concepts; eagerness to learn more if needed 
  • Well versed with computers; knowledge of both Mac and PC environments a plus 
  • Experience with video and/or audio production, including knowledge of Adobe creative suite programs, a plus

Reagan Ranch Center, Santa Barbara, CA

POSITION: Development Officer

The development officer is a member of the Young America’s Foundation’s Development Team which includes staff at the Foundation’s National Headquarters in Reston, Virginia, and at the Foundation’s Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara, California. Young America’s Foundation has raised $175 million in the last decade, and we expect this staffer to add to this momentum. The development officer will work in close collaboration with the Foundation’s overall team of six development officers to achieve the fundraising goals of the organization. The development officer will play a key role in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting annual, major, and capital gifts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The development officer would receive training from the Institute for Charitable Giving programs and by the director of development to perform the following duties:

  • Manage a portfolio of primary prospects in all aspects of the gift cycle
  • Initiate contact with current and potential major gift donors
  • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies (home visits, Ranch visits, correspondence, event participation, etc.)
  • Move donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation
  • Make solicitations when appropriate
  • Provide high level of quality stewardship after the gift
  • Report the status and progress of an assigned list of supporters
  • Ensure that a comprehensive and informative visit report is timely filed for all donor contacts
  • Ensure that each Reagan Ranch visitor has a first-class experience to establish, or reinforce, the supporter’s lifelong support of Young America’s Foundation
  • Maximize the Foundation’s current and future support in Santa Barbara, in California, and throughout the country
  • Work with the overall development team to ensure supporter events, including Rawhide Circle Retreats, President’s Club events, Reagan Ranch Roundtables, and other supporter events, reach the maximum financial potential for Young America’s Foundation
  • Provide other members of the Foundation development team with support including research.
  • Fulfill supporters’ recognition wishes of naming opportunities throughout the organization.
