  • Bloomberg Magazine Cover Labels Reagan a 'Socialist'

"Socialism only works in two places: Heaven where they don't need it and hell where they already have it." - President Ronald Reagan

Bloomberg Insider has released one of the most asinine magazine covers and cover stories I've ever seen. Their cover calls President Ronald Reagan a "socialist," agreeing with President Obama's assessment that President Reagan was a "wild-eyed socialist, tax-hiking, class warrior." (Here's my article refuting those remarks)

Bloomberg is equally desperate for readers as they are for facts.

Only one president in the last 100 years who is arguable more conservative than Ronald Reagan is Calvin Coolidge--who cut taxes from more than 70 percent to 25 percent and slashed government spending.

Still, questioning President Reagan's conservative credentials is almost comedic.

The Left and the media demonized President Reagan as "radical" and "dangerous" while he was in office. Now, in this article, President Reagan is a "reluctant warrior" with "willingness to compromise"--implying that President Reagan would not fit in today's Conservative Movement.

The Bloomberg article implies that President Reagan was a tax-hiker and believed in wealth redistribution.

Does this guy sound like a socialist to you?

    • In President Ronald Reagan's inaugural address he said: "All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price."
    • On August 13, 1981, President Reagan signed the biggest tax cut in American history-a 25 percent cut for all Americans.
    • By the end of his presidency, the top income tax rate fell from 70 percent to 28 percent.
    • In the same speech President Obama and Bloomberg referenced, President Reagan said: "Lower, flatter tax rates will give Americans more confidence in the future…It'll mean if you work overtime or get a raise or a promotion or if you have a small business and are able to turn a profit, more of that extra income will end up where it belongs -- in your wallets, not in Uncle Sam's pockets."

President Reagan cut domestic spending, cut taxes, and destroyed communism (socialism's older brother). Calling President Reagan a socialist is like calling Donald Trump "humble" or calling President Obama a "fiscal conservative"--it's just not true.

Ron Meyer--age 22--is the spokesman for Young America's Foundation, which has saved and preserved the Reagan Ranch since 1998. He's a frequent guest on Fox News and the Sean Hannity Radio Show. Email him at rmeyer@yaf.org.

    • Mr. Meyer, Concerning O's "tax the rich" nonsense, why doesn't some one point out that "unearned income" to individuals (dividends!) are taxed (at 35% ?) to the corporation as profits which are the only legal source for their payment and then the same dollars are taxed again at 15% on the 1040 form. Isn't that 44.75 % on the same tax basis? [X (corporate profits) -.35X (corporate tax) = .65X (profit after taxes available for distribution as dividends) - .15 (1040 tax on dividens) x .65X = .65X - .0975X = .5525X, or in summary, a corporation's shareholder pays 44.75% of the after costs return on the investment. [Please check my facts and math; I don't have easy access to the former and the latter has always ben suspect!] If I am right, then what is the "rich's" fair share? By the way, my unearned income + pensions + social seurity payments do NOT put me in O's current "rich" status so I am arguing on principle, not on self-interest. Secondly, why do the conservatives not point out that taxes mean that the government chooses what the dollars are going to be spent on and not the individuals who earned the dollars? If I have more dollars because of less taxes, I can, if I want to, give more to my "important" charities and programs and not O's favorite ones which also benefit him politically to my and my party's detriment.

    • Calling President Reagan a socialist is really sad. Bloomberg will soon call General George Washington a tory! . Real ignorance, but not surprising. What did one man say.. There is no cure for stupid.
