SANTA BARBARA, CA - August 13, 2012, marks the
31st anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's signing of
the Economic Recovery Tax Act of
1981-which cut taxes 25 percent for all Americans. To
commemorate the tax cuts, Michael Medved will
host his nationally syndicated radio show at Young America's
Foundation's Reagan Ranch Center live from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. PST.
The event will be free of charge.
The Reagan tax cuts are the antithesis of the Obama
administration's "you-didn't-build-that" tax policies and
proposals, and Young America's Foundation is highlighting this
anniversary to remind the nation of the wild success of Reagan's
initiatives-and why we should be emulating them now.
After the implementation of the tax cuts, the youth
unemployment rate (ages 16-24) dropped 43 percent, starting as high
as 18.8 percent and falling to 10.7 percent by the end of Reagan's
presidency. America experienced its longest sustained
period of economic growth ever, and despite cutting the top tax
rate from 70 percent to 28 percent, revenues from this bracket
doubled by the end of the Reagan presidency.
In what Investors Business Daily has dubbed "The Great
Youth Depression," young Americans are yearning for more jobs and
more freedom. A McClatchy-Marist poll showed 69 percent of young
Americans favor tax cuts for everyone, including successful
employers and businessmen-which is exactly what President Reagan
did in 1981.
President Reagan signed the cuts at his presidential home,
Rancho del Cielo, and Medved will host his show
just feet from the actual table where President Reagan signed the
cuts. Young America's Foundation preserves the table at an exhibit
at the Reagan Ranch Center, while keeping a replica at Rancho del
Cielo.
Young America's Foundation is the only organization which hosts
events on this anniversary. Art Laffer, the economist credited as a
visionary for the historic legislation, spoke at the Reagan Ranch
last year to highlight the incredible economic growth which results
from cutting taxes.
This year, the Foundation will host a studio audience for a
three-hour live broadcast of The Michael Medved Show. The
Michael Medved Show is syndicated on 200 stations across
the country, putting him in the top ten of Talk Magazine's
top hosts.
Andrew Coffin, vice president and the Director of the Reagan
Ranch for Young America's Foundation, said, "Michael Medved is
perfect for this event because he understands remembering this
anniversary goes beyond remembering a great accomplishment by a
great leader. It's about learning what to emulate so we can make
this nation great again for future young Americans."
