The debate over health care is not over, now that the bill passed by Congress is being challenged. Our friends at the Committee to Reclaim American Liberty recently held a symposium to discuss the issue, and they produced a Health Reform Booklet.
Here are some of the report's key arguments against government takeover of health care:
- Doctors lose decision-making power while the federal government gains more power
- Costs will top $2.5 trillion over 10 years
- Taxes will increase more than a half trillion dollars
- "One size fits all" coverage would be mandated by the federal government, reducing options
- Young people would pay more to subsidize the health problems of older people
- The federal government will have unconstitutional power to punish you for not purchasing insurance
- Power is usurped from states, who recently have brought innovative reforms, including West Virginia, Texas, and Utah
There are promising alternatives to this massive government takeover that are also discussed in the report. As Ronald Reagan said, "The government is the problem, not the solution."
