The Left is up in arms because Governor Sarah Palin is speaking at a private fundraiser, sponsored by the 501(c)3 CSU Stanislaus Foundation in June.
Leftists, including State Senator Leland Yee, are upset because the Foundation is not disclosing her speaking fee, even though the event is a private fundraiser, sponsored by individuals and corporations on their own dime. Few, if any, students will probably attend the event.
However, the Left does not get upset when people on their side speak for huge fees that come from tuition dollars, taxpayer subsidies, and student's pockets. When John Edwards spoke about poverty at UC Davis for a $55,000 fee, where were Senator Yee and his friends to question that amount? When Michelle Obama spoke at UC Merced in 2009, the university had to pay more than $1,000,000 in taxpayer funds for security costs, but Senator Yee was not complaining. The list goes on and on in the liberal speaker parade.
The double standard must stop and the Left should complain whenever a speaker is paid an unusually high honorarium, especially when students and taxpayers and funding the event.
