The liberals who hijacked congress did it. They succeeded in passing a massive overhaul of the best healthcare system in the world; Mahlstedta system that worked for 90% of the American people.  They used backroom deals, behind closed doors negotiations where anyone who disagreed was not privy; and most importantly, they abused the offices they hold to usurp the will of the American people in order to impose their sick idea of social justice. But what does this mean for you and me, as American citizens?

This bill sets a dangerous precedent. No longer can we trust our elected officials to listen to the American people. It is now okay for congress to pass a bill that was not read, not popular, and not bipartisan. It is now acceptable to threaten members of congress, bribe members of congress, and bully wavering congressional members whose heavy hearts doubt the worthiness of legislation in order to advance left-wing socialist entitlement policy.

This bill means that for the first time in American History, our citizens will be forced to pay for another individual to kill their unborn baby. Every abortion in America is done through the guise of healthcare whether it is a doctor prescribing a pill to terminate an unwanted child or through a doctor performing a partial birth abortion. Everyone knows that doctors, and doctors alone, perform these horrific “medical” procedures. You, as an American taxpayer, now fund both doctors and patients. You therefore now fund abortions. Make no mistake about it! Any contention to the contrary is nothing short of a lie.

This bill spits in the face of our founding fathers. It replaces individual responsibility, small government, a government that protects individual freedom, with a new kind of government that provides for its citizens. When government asserts itself into this roll it is contrary to American values and dangerous to our continued success. Our founding fathers knew this. Thomas Jefferson said, “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” This bill starts America down a road that our founding fathers feared. What would they think of congress now? How ashamed might they be?

Most importantly this bill now means that you are less free.  From the time you woke up yesterday morning to the time you went to bed last night Congress stripped you of, without due process, 1/6th of your economic liberty. Congress took over the health industry last night. The health industry is 1/6th of our economy. You therefore are now 1/6th less economically free.

In Washington D.C., the Mecca of world freedom, the liberal left bullied moderates and closed out opposition, successfully absconding with your liberty.  America marches on less free…bruised, battered and beaten; carrying but a flicker of a flame atop the torch of liberty.

    • Interesting viewpoint. That said it is my opinion that a fellow citizen's health actually ought to be a concern to me. What sort of a jungle should this country be for you to be proud of it? One that fails its weakest members while the richest abuse their position of power to get richer? Is there no limit to this indecency? PS: Congress was duly elected and represents you and the nation, its work is serious - it's just that you are no longer in power haven't you heard the news? Just who are you to write about backroom deals? I'll give you a list of Republican-driven backroom deals, where should we start?

    • Why do you have the whole lie about paying for others abortions on this site? See: That is the problem...I came here looking for facts and to try and see another view point and within seconds found a bold faced lie...and hence makes me click back out. Don't tell lies to incite people.

    • Stacy- Thank you for checking out Young America’s Foundation. It is an amazing organization. Your interest in alternate viewpoints is admirable. With regards to what you claim is a ‘lie’ about public funding for abortions: It is true that just yesterday President Obama signed an executive order which provided that there would be no public funding for abortions. This was on the news; and you, as I, are well aware of this. It is also true that a presidential executive order has the full force of federal law. It therefore appears that public funding for abortion is banned through executive order and the pro-life congressional members held to their principals. I can see how you believe this given the media coverage. Except there is one problem: Executive orders are only valid if they comport with the United States Constitution. I encourage you to read Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. In these cases the court held, inter alia, that any federal funding for healthcare must also fund abortions unless the legislation specifically forbids it (the Hyde amendment). This bill does not specifically forbid it (it contains no Hyde amendment) and therefore the government is obligated to fund abortions. If you accept the fact that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land and that the Supreme Court sets constitutional law through their judicial opinions, then you have to accept the fact that the executive order Obama signed is unconstitutional and unenforceable because it is contrary to the Supreme Court’s decision in these two cases. Therefore the bill funds abortions. Thanks for your comment. I hope this clarifies things. -Brad Mahlstedt-

    • Benoit: I respect the fact that you feel as though a fellow citizen’s healthcare ought to be a concern for you. It is a concern for me to. I am not an advocate of doing nothing. Rather I advocate real reform that helps facilitate an open market where individuals can access affordable healthcare without having to give up their individual freedom to do so. We seem to agree. The method of achievement is where we might differ. As per failing our weakest members (I assume you mean poor) while the richest abuse their position of power to get richer: I simply don’t know how this furthers your position on healthcare. For the poor are already covered through government programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. So the idea that the poor do not have access is simply false. Rather the bulk of the uninsured are the middle class. The same middle class that has cable, cell phones, flat screen televisions, the newest Jordan kicks, and a Tahoe in the driveway are a large part of the uninsured. It’s not that they don’t have access or can’t afford insurance. Rather they choose to spend their money in a different way. This is America and an individual should have the right to do so. But when they get sick it is not my responsibility to be forced to pay for them. Also, what’s with demonizing the rich? I bet the guy that hired you has more money than you. What’s wrong with having money and earning it through hard work? I just don’t see how rich people make poor people not have insurance. Perhaps you meant to argue/conclude that this is what insurance companies (even though you would be wrong on that also) do? If they are not insuring the poor they can’t be taking their money. In fact they would have no relationship with them whatsoever. So how are they abusing the poor to get richer with regards to healthcare? Congress: they can be duly elected yet not represent you. Example: Hitler was elected yet I doubt he adequately represented a single Jew. Enough said. Republicans: I agree. But I am not a Republican. I am conservative and so is YAF. Get your facts straight and learn the difference. It will help you in further debate.

    • It was certainly a sad day for America with the passage of this bill. The liberals agenda of forced redistribution of wealth has now completed its first task. Health care 1/6 of our freedom. What will their next target be? The environment with Cap and Tax(I mean trade), education?? What is next... Their ultimate goal is to redistribute all of our wealth, to the lazy and useless people of this great country. Thus shattering the American Dream for their fanciful socialist utopia. The youth of America has been indoctrinated well. I see it day in and day out. The hippies of the 60-70's who where dead set on the destruction of America now educate our youth. Keep up the good work with this organization!! Continue to educate. You have my support. God Save This Great Nation!!!
