  • Young People Hit Hard Under Obama

10/6/2009 2:04:45 PM Posted by Kate Obenshain

There was a StudentsImage(1)great editorial  in the WSJ over the weekend, taking a look at what a disastrous impact the minimum wage hike is having on employment numbers for teenagers.  The rate went up to $7.25 in July, and just as economists predicted, the results were immediate. In just 2 months, 330,000 teen jobs were lost as the unemployment rate for that group reached 25.9%--that’s the highest rate since World War II!  Hit worst?  Young black males.  Their unemployment rate is an unthinkable 50.4%.  Have you heard liberals talking about this?  Nope. The facts would just get in the way, undermining one of their favorite and most economically inane ideas.

Economists nationwide understand the negative impact of raising the minimum wage on workers.  But guess who else understood it?  ACORN.  Yes, you read correctly.  While helping to ram through living wage laws in cities across the country, ACORN sued the state of California in 1995 in an effort to be exempted from its minimum wage requirement.  It argued, as do many businesses, that it would be able to hire fewer workers if it had to pay them more.  Almost comically, it also argued that "A person paid limited sums of money will be in a better position to empathize with and relate to the low and moderate membership and constituency of ACORN."

I’ll stick with the economists on this one: raising the minimum wage means fewer jobs.  Plain and simple. And those workers with the least experience, meaning the youngest, will be the first to go.

    • Mt teleprompter had a mnltuacfion.(Edit by clif, son you have no teleprompter you use here, it is your brain that mnltuacfions quite regularly) Speaking of non-answered questions, How many were republicans? You just said six gave to the RNC, Exxon gives to both, Walmart gives to both, does that make them republican or democrat?(Edit by clif, I don't know about the crooks at Walmart who regularly underpay their workers and push very hard for good paying jobs in the USA to be sent to China, or the crooks at Exxon who pollute and scam money form all Americans but when people give to just ONE particular party i would kind of suggest they lean that way.)BTW, did (deleted you were warned) to sign another sub-prime mortgage bill. At least he is consistent in his actions, a house for everyone especially if they can't afford it. This will be run through the ever successful Fannie and Freddie that started the housing mess.(Edit by clif, Another LIE, you refuse the numerous FACTS we have provided that the sub-prime mess wasn't a Fannie or Freddie operation at all because they didn't buy those loans WALL STREET did, and wall street pumped for more bad loans they could fraudulently repackage and sell year after year from 2002 to 2006 when the housing bubble began to deflateBTW shit for brains, and yes you have provided numerous examples of that here, I am NOT reposting all the FACTS we have provided here, go back and re-read the threads, move your lips if that helps and have mommy help ya with the big words ya don't understand.) I am sure Maxine Waters will support this because, like she said last time, there is nothing wrong with Fannie and Freddie.

    • While the MW will effect many, many Americans I don't believe that to be the proper fix for this problem. Like Reagan believed I think we should give this back over to private corporations to help solve the job problem. Teens cannot compete with adults for jobs, it messes up the balance or fry cook, and bank teller, and manager at Harris Teeter. I found the Alternative to College for Christian Men that could provide some direction for young christian americans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVeG3jskjVs
