Last night, the Hillsdale College Young Americans for Freedom chapter held a moment of silence for former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who passed away yesterday at the age of 87. Baroness Thatcher was a champion of liberty, free markets and the empowerment of the individual. The only statue dedicated to Baroness Thatcher in the United States is on Hillsdale's campus.
Yesterday afternoon, the YAF chapter sent around this e-mail to the entire campus, inviting anyone to come to the ceremony:
Freedom lost a courageous leader today and we ask you to
join the Young Americans Foundation in honoring her legacy. Lady
Thatcher was a champion for free markets, limited government and
individual liberty. She stood with President Reagan in staring down
communism and made our world more free and prosperous. We owe a
debt of gratitude to the Prime Minister for her friendship,
dedication to principle, and determination to make the world secure
for freedom. We daily reap the blessings of her dedication. The
Hillsdale Chapter of Young Americans for Freedom asks that you take
a moment to remember her work in defense of freedom. We must all
learn from her example and further dedicate ourselves to defending
the freedom she, and so many others, have labored to preserve for
The chapter was kind enough to send along some pictures of the event. The entire album will be uploaded to our Facebook page.
