• Catholic Franciscan University to Appeal Obamacare Ruling

3/25/2013 3:24:26 PM Posted by Adam Tragone

ObamaDoctorOverlooked last week because we were prepping in Santa Barbara, California for our first high school conference of the year, more news on the fight against ObamaCare. Hat tip to FoxNews.com for the story:

The head of an Ohio Roman Catholic university has promised to appeal a federal judge's decision denying its lawsuit challenging a provision of ObamaCare mandating employer-provided birth control.

"We will not stop fighting this unjust mandate, and we are in this for the long haul," Father Terence Henry, the president of Franciscan University of Steubenville, said in a statement released Friday.

The small Catholic school near the Ohio/Pennsylvania border is just one of the many Catholic institutions that have filed suit against the provision of the law mandating employer-provided birth control. But because the law is changing so frequently, the U.S. Appeals Court sided with the government saying that the school lacked jurisdiction and could not prove that the law would ultimately effect the school.

"It is gravely unfortunate that Franciscan's students have lost the opportunity to receive health insurance coverage from the University," Judge Algenon Marbley said.

"To the extent Franciscan claims its decision to discontinue providing student insurance is a hardship to itself, however, the hardship is self-inflicted," Marbley said.

Franciscan University dropped it's student health insurance program in May.

"We are very confident in the merits of our case, and we will continue to do everything in our power to protect our constitutional right to religious freedom," Henry said.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, especially come 2014 when the law kicks in, but good on Franciscan University for standing up for its beliefs.

    • I wish! Right now, the text is illegible wheehtr you are color blind or not. Something happened with the switch to iOS6 that made that occur. I'm told by the developers that they've fixed the problem and already been submitted to Apple, but there's a long list of apps that are getting updated because of their new OS. Should happen any day now. Until then, try the dumbbell background as that seems to give the best contrast. That's a lame suggestion, I know. Thanks for your patience.

    • Unfortunately, not at this time. The Franciscan conferences did a poll of the teens and they oleiwhelmrngvy had an iOS device (iPhone, iTouch, iPad, etc.) instead of an Android one. But they are creating a mobile web device which can be read on any phone browser.

    • I am proud to be a part of the Franciscan Gay Alumni and Allies. We were shocked by the laaugnge being employed by the University which classes homosexuals in the same strain of deviancy' as rapists and murderers. I am not surprised they are crying freedom of religion'. They also claimed that other, secular, Universities use the same course description. A quick Google of the SKW course description shows that there no other Universities out there who are using the same description. All we asked was that they amend the course description to reflect APA standards. And for that we were threatened with a law suit. Shame on them. http://ftyvuwn.com patluqbq [link=http://wvfulk.com]wvfulk[/link]
