For the second straight year, vandals have ransacked a large
scale pro-life display at a university. Last year, they
destroyed a Young Americans for Freedom project at DePaul
University in Chicago. This week they ruined the work of a
prominent conservative group at Winthrop University in South
reported by the HeraldOnline, the group laid out 3,000
pink and blue flags on Sunday. Each individual flag
represented 19,000 unborn boys and girls killed since the oft
criticized Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion.
Within an hour of the completion of the display, group members
noticed individual students stealing flags.
Even worse, one group of marauders was seen stomping the flags
into the ground.
One student defended the destruction, saying "some people may
just not be ready to have a child." A supporter of the
display called opposing abortion a "human rights" issue.
This attack was very reminiscent of the violent treatment of a
similar display last February. The "Flags For Life" project
constructed by the De Paul chapter of Young Americans for Freedom
also used flags to represent the deaths of unborn children.
The Daily Caller reported that vandals tore down the
flags and stuffed them into a nearby trash bin.
At the time, chapter chair Kristopher del Campo lamented that
"It is a sad thing to see that liberal-minded students aren't
tolerant and don't respect the views of those who respect the lives
of the unborn."
Winthrop University's mission statement extols "the values of
service, excellence, diversity, community, and leadership."
Conservative group president Tyler Richardson adds that "One of the
things that is preached a lot at Winthrop is tolerance."
Unfortunately, the actions at both De Paul University last year
and Winthrop University last week prove that "diversity" and
"tolerance" are still not virtues embraced by the campus Left.
