By: Ben Smith, UNC Campus Activist and Summer 2013 Young America's Foundation Intern

AnnKatieAfter several weeks of fighting liberal intolerance in the University of North Carolina (UNC) student congress, my conservative club lost the battle to receive its full funding request. Originally, we asked for $8,180, but it was drastically reduced. Our club planned to bring Young America's Foundation speakers Katie Pavlich, a New York Times bestseller, and Ann McElhinney, former BBC journalist and producer of FrackNation, an educational film on the benefits of fracking.

Members of the UNC student congress called the work of the women, "non-educational" and insulted them personally simply because they "worked at Fox News." This came as nothing new to conservatives at UNC Chapel Hill, known as the "leftist bastion of the South." The UNC student Congress cut the club's budget by 75% to a smaller sum of $3,090.

Despite this egregious violation of intellectual diversity, and not to mention the student code, Young America's Foundation in conjunction with Ms. Pavlich and Mrs. McElhinney, have decided to step in and help cover some of the cost, and will also help the conservatives on campus with a crowd funding effort on indiegogo. In addition, both ladies have agreed to appear on campus together, to stand in opposition to the leftist congress that insulted them and their work. The date and time is yet to be determined. Check back for more updates!

*The UNC conservatives have met their fundraising goal of $6,000 through crowd funding efforts on indigogo within a matter of hours. The club is still accepting donations to ensure this will not happen again.*

    • 8,180 * 0.75 = 6135 8,180 - 6135 = 2045 The budget was not cut by 75%. Less than that. It doesn't surprise me that you got your funding refused when you are either incapable of basic math, or you trying to trick people who are incapable.

    • Funny how the conservatives raise money for free speech and point of view and liberals raise money for abortions and free condoms. Well DONE!

    • @ Are you Stupid? Does it make you feel better that the cut was at 65% instead the published error of 75%? Does UNC seek to have or expose the student body to conservative views or are they afraid that the message may actually persuade them away from the radical left POV they are bombarded with daily? Sounds like they are afraid of the message and the messengers! It is typical of liberals however to swat at gnats while being over run by their own Asses.

    • @ are you stupid?: Yes, let's focus on TEH MATHS(!!!!) and not the blatant disregard for allowing views counter to the liberal claptrap that pervades every college campus. Let's not focus on the leftist student congress doing their best to squash ideas they don't like, while inviting far less qualified "weirdos" to campus.

    • Dear "Are you stupid?" This article leaves out the fact that UNCCRs were allotted $12,741 last year (according to this Townhall article: http://m.townhall.com/tipsheet/kateandrews/2013/08/30/unc-student-finance-committee-cuts-college-republicans-budget-over-75-n1686434). That must be where the "75%" figure comes from. But good for you for double-checking. Cheers.

    • Enough of the bickering. Work on your math - and editing skills. The liberal students need to learn on accepting different views without such aggressive, egregious behavior (and same to any conservatives being less than professional). All of you must find a common bond that as Americans you live in a great nation that honors all views! Start bringing American pride back to the campuses vs conflict!! God Bless this great nation - and you all need to respect the fact that you are free to study as you do.

    • "are you stupid" - no he isn't stupid Last year, the College Republicans received over $12,000 from Student Congress Now, do the math: 12,000 * .75 = 9,000 12,000 - 9,000 = 3,000 It is obvious that you yourself are incapable of basic math, or you merely have no idea of the situation facing the College Republicans, and merely troll them on the internet. Don't go blasting young writers, calling them stupid, when you yourself have no genuine idea of the situation or its implications. Liberals preach of "tolerance" and "openness", but it is clear that liberals can only tolerate liberal ideals and philosophies.
