  • Liberal Bias Exposed: UNC Conservatives Take a Hit

8/29/2013 4:57:09 PM Posted by Hillary Cherry

By: Hillary Cherry, Program Officer of Public Relations

UNCThe University of North Carolina Student Congress showed a shameful display of liberal bias when they decided to cut the budget of a conservative club by 75% and increase the budget of radial leftist groups on campus. The total amount cut from their budget was $8,000, which would have been going toward bringing two frequent Young America's Foundation speakers to campus, Katie Pavlich and Ann McElhinney. Unfortunately, the club will have to look else where for funding, but in the meantime they are not remaining silent.

Executive-vice chair of the UNC conservative club and former Young America's Foundation intern, Ben Smith stated, "The UNC student congress has a history of repeatedly condemning and defunding conservative ideals on campus. Whether is be trying to defund our campus second amendment club, cancelling funding for speakers, like Ann Coulter in the fall of 2011, or supporting radical student groups. For example, during the allocation process, ironically, the UNControllables, an anarchist group, who admitted to defacing Greek Housing and university property received $1,005 more than us. What's more disturbing is that an feminist magazine that is published through the Gender Studies department, that essentially appeared overnight, and not many members of congress had heard of it, was allocated over $5,000."
