According to Weather Channel founder John Coleman, man-made climate change is a myth.  Well, college students at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) would strongly disagree.

In a statement Coleman said, "The ocean is not rising significantly.  The polar ice is increasing, not melting away.  Polar bears are increasing in number.  Heat waves have diminished, not increased."

However, the students at UCSB feel very differently.  There was not a single person we interviewed who didn't believe in global warming.  When asked what concerned them the most about global warming the answers from the students varied, some were entertaining and some were plain sad.

"Well, it's going to get really hot and we are going to have to use AC all the time."

"Rising sea levels-global warming is affecting that."

Many of the students noted they have been learning about global warming in their classes and stressed the importance of learning about the issue.

There were a few students who made it clear they are doing all they can to reduce their individual carbon footprint.  One student claimed that he bikes 15 miles to school everyday, and another student said she's vegan.

When asked what they would say to climate change deniers the answers were unanimous, "Educate yourselves."

Well, maybe these students should take their own advice and realize that science isn't on their side.  Over the years global warming has become a policy agenda spurred on by leftists and environmentalists, but the science just isn't there.

This year marks, an 18-year "pause" in global warming-which leaves environmentalists scratching their heads to come up with excuses to combat climate-change deniers.

They can keep their computer models and we will keep our science-based in fact, not projections.

    • The correct term is Climate Change and the vast majority of climate scientists agree that it is an important issue and that man has a role in this change. John Coleman is not a climate scientist. He is a journalist who got into broadcasting local weather - NOT climate (big difference). While the extent of man's influence in Climate Change is hard to pin down and there are probably some groups that are trying to take advantage of the situation that does NOT change the real impacts of our (relatively) rapidly changing climate.

    • Well, look out climate scientists. It seems you've been doing everything wrong, according to some clueless TV weather reporter, and some random uneducated conservative think tank spokeswoman. Maybe if you stopped reading discredited denier websites and regurgitating tired old tropes and actually educated yourself on the real science as suggested by these UCSB students, you wouldn't write such a nonsense laden article. You keep sticking to your "pause" while 2014 looks on track to become the hottest year on record (and consequently, the hottest year since the Holocene began): http://www.climatecentral.org/news/2014-on-track-to-be-warmest-year-on-record-18041 Those of us who understand climate will continue to laugh as deniers take short term trends dominated by unpredictable natural variability and try to claim this as evidence against thousands of scientific papers.

    • Looking at the facts and data is always a good idea before trying to bust ideas. Who are these climate scientists you refer to who "are scratching their heads?" Do you have scientific evidence and data to support your claim that climate change is not real? This April was the first time in 800,000 years that carbon dioxide hit 400 parts per million. I'm just going to leave an article here: http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2014/10/13/nasa_earth_just_experienced_the_warmest_six_month_stretch_ever.html This was just a quick search I did to supply evidence to support my claim. I highly recommend looking at primary sources as well, I do not have ready to access to those right now though. Just look at the data.

    • Ashley - you are a perfect spokeswoman for the Young Americas Foundation. Instead of interviewing one of the Nobel prize winning UCSB professors (they're the scientists with the PhDs) you choose to mock students whose minds are open to factual data, unlike the UAF. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but it's always a good idea to be open to reading data from reputable sources before stating your opinion as fact. The agriculture arm of the UN has estimated animal agriculture alone is contributing almost 20% of the worlds current greenhouse gasses and asserts that meat and milk consumption is going to rocket by 70% by 2050. Looks like the vegan student was right. We should all start eating a plant based diet immediately!
