Young America’s Foundation is honored to recognize Reagan Ranch Board of Governors member Ambassador Patricia Herbold and her husband, Robert Herbold, for their sponsorship of the Guardian Point Acre at Rancho del Cielo. Their gift is part of Young America’s Foundation’s Reagan 100 initiative.
Guardian Point is the special location at Rancho del Cielo where the United States Secret Service (USSS) counter-snipers were assigned during daylight hours to provide protection for the President while he visited his ranch retreat.
During the Presidential years, USSS agents called this area “Lookout Mountain,” as it offered panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands as well as the Santa Ynez Valley.
A special plaque was unveiled dedicating the acre and acknowledging the Herbolds’ sponsorship.
Their plaque reads:
Young America’s Foundation recognizes the generous gift of Ambassador Patricia L. & Robert J. Herbold, patriots and supporters of the principles which guided President Reagan throughout his life. This gift in 2011 preserves Guardian Point where counter-snipers stood watch surveying Rancho del Cielo to ensure the President’s safety at all times.
Governor Scott Walker and his wife, Tonette, were on hand for the acre dedication, along with Foundation President Ron Robinson, Vice President and Reagan Ranch Director Andrew Coffin, Reagan Ranch Board of Governors Chairman Frank Donatelli, and Assistant to the President Jessica Jensen.
Young America’s Foundation thanks the Herbolds for this great gift during the 100th anniversary year of Ronald Reagan’s birth.
