College students: BEWARE. Oliver Stone has been promoting his film "South of the Border ," which glorifies Venezuelan dictator, Hugo Chavez, to your peers on campuses. Chavez, a socialist dictator, called President Bush "Hitler." Venezuelans aren't buying the film's pro-Chavez message, and many believe it portrays the tyrant in too positive a light.
They know propaganda when they see it -- especially when they witness the evils of Chavez firsthand. But Oliver Stone isn't deterred from the Venezuelans rejection of his film. Stone is determined to spread his socialistic ideology and anti-American ideology to the one audience he knows is most impressionable: American students.
Oliver Stone took his film to students at Pepperdine University. He also visited Pomona College in California, where he told a student that his pro-Chavez movie is a "101-type course" on South America. Stone is scheduled to speak at UC-Davis in 2012.
The U.S. State department has documented 6,000 killings and several incidences of beatings and torture under Chavez's security forces. But Oliver Stone thinks it's cute and amusing to have a positive film done on this dictator. Stone's promotion of the film to students is irresponsible.
