Don’t count on me to shed a tear for John Murtha. Not a single one. The congressman from Pennsylvania, who recently died after a botched surgery, infamously slandered our Marines in Haditha, Iraq as cold-blooded murderers. In 2006, Murtha went on television and belched: “Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”Our Marines had been in a firefight with enemy operatives, but did they really go on a massacre-inducing shooting spree? Murtha not only thought so, he held this opinion without an official investigation. Nada. Zilch. Zero. The men and women who are overseas dying to ensure our freedoms at home are maintained were not even afforded the presumption of innocence by a leading member of Congress. Fast forward to today, seven out of the eight men Murtha accused have been cleared, and the last one is expected to be cleared. In September of 2007, I asked Murtha if he would have the dignity to apologize. He cut and ran into an elevator. See for yourself.
Bottom line: Murtha has gone to the grave in disgrace.
