Here’s a must-see conservative film: The Lives of Others is about a secret police officer who, while
spying on a writer and his lover, becomes obsessed with their lives. The film
is an exploration of the lives of people living under communist rule in East
Germany.
The protagonist is suspected to be a doubter of communism,
and is spied on consistently. It is a German film, but it did win an Oscar, and
it is a must-see for anyone who describes themselves as conservative. To read
what National Review had to say about it, click
here. (It was rated, “the best conservative movie of the last 25 years.”)
The National
Review piece included quotes from William F. Buckley, who loved the film:
“I think that this is the best movie I ever
saw,” said William F. Buckley Jr. upon leaving the theater (according to his
column on the film). … “The tension mounts to heart-stopping pitch
and I felt the impulse to rush out into the street and drag passersby in to
watch the story unfold.”
