Despite her poll numbers being the worst of any recent nominee, Elena Kagan was approved today by the Senate Judiciary Committee. This news comes amid growing reports that many do not want her confirmed, including the team here at Young America’s Foundation.
According to Gallup, only 44 percent believe that the nominee should be confirmed by the Senate. The only recent nominee to have a lower rating headed toward a Senate vote was Harriet Miers – who resigned before the Senate could vote on her nomination.
As readers are well aware, Young America’s Foundation has been at the forefront of opposing this nomination due to Kagan’s abysmal record on students’ rights issues and ROTC issues. This news is by all means disheartening, but it certainly does not mean that the fight is over.
The Senate is expected to vote on Kagan in early August. That leaves you plenty of time to call your Senators and urge them to Keep Out Kagan.
