In Memory of Judge William P. Clark, Jr., 1931-2013

Co-Chairman of the Reagan Ranch Board of Governors

clark1234Today Young America's Foundation mourns the loss of an important ally and friend, Judge William Clark. Judge Clark was a close confidant to Ronald Reagan and served with the Governor and President throughout his career. Judge Clark extended that commitment to his President through his leadership in protecting and preserving the Reagan Ranch.

"This is sad news indeed," said Young America's Foundation President Ron Robinson. "Bill was an inspiration in so many ways, first and foremost as a man of great Faith. You also had to be moved by his relationship with his wife Joan, his children, and his President. We have lost a giant for our cause and country."

Clark1233Born on October 23,1931 in Oxnard, California, Bill was 81 years old when he passed away at his beloved ranch home in Shandon, California on August 10. He served under Ronald Reagan as U.S. secretary of interior, advisor to the President for national security affairs, and deputy secretary of state. Earlier in his career, Judge Clark served as justice of the California Supreme Court, justice of the California Court of Appeal, judge of the Superior Court and chief of staff to Governor Reagan. Judge Clark, according to biographer and Reagan historian Paul Kengor, was Ronald Reagan's "single most important advisor."

Judge Clark worked closely with Young America's Foundation to preserve President Reagan's Western White House, Rancho del Cielo. He served on the Reagan Ranch Board of Governors as co-chairman, alongside fellow Reagan-administration veterans Edwin Meese and Frank Donatelli, since the earliest days of our efforts to protect and preserve this national treasure. Judge Clark was also a recipient of the Foundation's Torch of Freedom Award, reflecting his lifetime of service to our country and commitment to the cause of freedom.

clark22Reagan Ranch Board of Governors Chairman Frank Donatelli issued this statement:

Bill Clark was indispensable to Ronald Reagan's success both as governor and later as president of the United States.  Reagan relied on his friend's judgment on a wide variety of policy matters. And why not?  Clark was a tireless advocate for limited government, America's national interests and the unborn.  It was our great fortune that he later channeled that same dedication to helping Young America's Foundation and the Reagan Ranch preserve Reagan's legacy. Bill Clark will be missed by all advocates of freedom.
