Young America's Foundation, with the generous support of the Arthur N. Rupe Foundation, are pleased to announce the Great Debate Series.
This fall, the Foundation will work with four key campuses to host a high-profile debate on issues pertinent to public policy and America's founding principles.
With many young people struggling to find jobs upon graduation, mounting college debt, and the Youth Misery Index at an all-time high, more students are looking for relief. The question remains, will they seek support from the government or from the free market? Regardless of the outcome of the election in November, students will pay closer attention to the national debate on public policy than ever before. The goal of this series is to give thousands of students a chance to engage in the public policy process by hearing from prominent leaders of our country.
The Foundation will work with the campus sponsors to select the debate topic, participants, and choose an appropriate moderator. Suggested conservative participants include
Karl Rove,
Michelle Malkin,
Dinesh D'Souza,
Bay Buchanan, and
Rick Santorum, among others. The goal of each event is to involve a broad group of campus participants in order to attract the largest possible audience.
Those interested in sponsoring one of these programs will be expected to provide the following:
- Background information on the sponsoring organization including any experience in organizing events on campus
- Suggested speakers
- Estimated budget
- Possible campus sponsors
- Detailed plan on how the event will be advertised to the campus and surrounding community
- Suggested dates for the event and expected attendance
- Tentative schedule
Funding is available from the Foundation to help cover speaker honoraria and travel and accommodation expenses. However, the school's portion of the fee must be raised in advance before any dates are confirmed. Those selected will work closely with the Foundation on the event's logistics and publicity.
