Unsurprisingly, the winner of the fourth annual GPA Redistribution Petition and Video Contest are Carthage College students: Danielle Cleveland, Matt Holmes, Caitlyn Stenerson, Chelsea Shields, and Peter Leaman!
While we're always grateful for all submissions, this one was quite exceptional. Not only has it been featured twice on The Sean Hannity Radio Show, Fox News' The Five played part of the video and discussed it on air.
All of the winners will be receiving free tuition for Young America's Foundation's National Conservative Student Conference in Washington, D.C. held at The George Washington University from July 30-August 4.
Here's the video (and a copy of our original blog on the video below):

Apparently, many students don't like the idea of redistribution. But, only as it applies to GPAs...
Young America's Foundation's fourth annual GPA Redistribution Petition and Video Contest has produced yet another stellar student entry, this time from Carthage College. This year, the national public policy debate has focused on "fairness" through taxing the wealthy in an attempt to redistribute wealth. Many young people support this socialistic policy.
Yet, when students at Carthage where asked if they would be willing to sign a petition to redistribute GPA points from the top 10% to the rest of the college, most of them said NO. One student said, "No, because I worked hard for my grades!"
Another said, "At Carthage, each student has an equal opportunity to get the GPA they desire." And another, "I don't want my GPA being taken away from me if I had an 'A'."
When the petitioners told students that oftentimes outside factors leave students at an unfair disadvantage, a student said, "No. I'm low-income and a minority, and I have a fairly decent GPA, so..."
Fittingly, some not in the upper 10% welcomed the free points. "Why not? I'm down, " said one student with a low GPA (eagerly signing the petition), but then the student's friend standing next to him said, "It takes away from people working hard... and obviously it's paid off with their higher GPA." Later in the conversation, when the first student told his friend to sign the petition, the friend responded, "How about trying harder for a semester?"
Hopefully, some of the students who were "greedy" with their GPAs understand redistribution of wealth a little better now.
No one has a right to something which someone else has worked hard for--whether it's their grades or their private property. While some have advantages to acquiring good grades or wealth, it doesn't mean we can steal and plunder the wealth of everyone who has worked hard for their rewards. The "Pursuit of Happiness" means you get to keep the "Happiness" once you've earned it.
Ironically, the professor in end the video says of the petitioners, "I think they're communists."
Don't tell that to the Left.

Young America's Foundation--as laid out in is its Campus Conservative Battleplan--holds this contest every year to highlight the hypocrisy of the Left's view on taxes. Many leftists think it's great to take money from people those who earned it, but it's immoral to redistribute grades.
