Brag-Lie: Stephanie Cutter Butchers Reagan's Recovery Record

President Reagan's recovery created more than three times the amount of jobs than the Obama administration's current malaise. America's youth were much better off under President Reagan.

Obama administration spokespeople say the darnedest things…

In the last week, two Obama administration associates have said some pretty bone-headed remarks. One bragged about 17% youth unemployment. The other lied about President Reagan's record.

    Let's start with the lie:

In an attempt to defend the Obama administration's abysmal jobs record, Stephanie Cutter, a former administration official, said, "you know, 27 months we've created 4.5 million private sector jobs. That's more jobs than in the Bush recovery, in the Reagan recovery."

Not only did the Reagan recovery produce more than three times the amount of jobs ( 9.8 million vs. 2.7 million in first 37 months after recession), youth jobs dramatically increased too. From the Reagan recovery to the end of his administration, youth unemployment went from 18.8 percent to 10.7 percent.

The Wall Street Journal 's article, "Why Kids Today Have It Worse Than Their Parents,"  has an excellent graph comparing the unemployment rate data for those born either in 1964 or 1988--comparing perfectly the recoveries of both presidents.

It's clear which set of policies worked for young Americans.

President Reagan empowered the private sector to build jobs. The Obama administration has only built more barriers to hiring young Americans.

Which gets us to the bragging:

The Obama administration's solution to fixing this economy is to "put lipstick on a pig." The Department of Labor and its secretary, Hilda Solis, sent out a press release accompanying new youth jobs numbers, and curiously enough, Solis actually bragged about 17.1 percent youth unemployment.

Maybe she's forgotten that the Obama administration has the worst youth summer jobs numbers in recorded history. Young Americans are feeling the burden of this economy. More than half of young college graduates are underemployed.

The truth is not much to brag about…
